Saturday morning volleyball, Hermosa Beach

on weekdays, the action starts early on Hermosa Beach's beachfront path --
bikers, joggers, skateboarders, bladers, seniors assisted by rolling
walkers. Volleyball players stake out their nets, surfers cross the sand
heading for the low waves. On the quarter-mile pier, fisherman scavenge
mussels from the pilings to use as bait. On the Strand, breakfast awaits
both early risers and late sleepers.
